EcoKaari & CSR: Transforming Communities Through Plastic Upcycling and Artisan Empowerment

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) plays a pivotal role in shaping a sustainable and equitable future for communities. At EcoKaari, CSR partnerships allow us to create large-scale environmental and social impact through the power of upcycling and artisan empowerment. Our long-term associations with organisations like JSW Foundation and BC Jindal Foundation demonstrate how collaborative action can turn waste into opportunity.

For the past four years (2021–2025), EcoKaari has been working with the JSW Foundation in Bellary, Karnataka. Through this initiative, we have upcycled an astounding 3,375,495 single‑use plastic bags that would have otherwise ended up in landfills, waterways, or local environments. More importantly, the partnership has enabled 75 women artisans to be trained and equipped with sustainable, dignified livelihoods lifting families and communities through skill-building and income stability.

Similarly, our ongoing collaboration with the BC Jindal Foundation in Kolkata, West Bengal, aims to upcycle 500 kg of single‑use plastic waste while training 25 women artisans to join EcoKaari’s growing network of craft entrepreneurs. These partnerships demonstrate how CSR can go beyond donations by creating economic, environmental, and long-term community impact.

EcoKaari’s upcycling model uses no electricity or chemicals. Using charkha and handloom, our artisans transform waste into high‑quality fabrics for lifestyle products like bags, accessories, and home décor. These products represent more than sustainability they reflect resilience, empowerment, and regenerative innovation.

CSR partnerships with EcoKaari not only help organisations meet sustainability, ESG, and social welfare goals, but also create measurable, real-world change. Together, we are tackling plastic pollution, uplifting communities, and preserving India’s handicraft heritage.
