EcoKaari x Gaurav Gupta: Upcycled Fashion at Lakmé Fashion Week & Beyond
In 2021, EcoKaari proudly collaborated with renowned couturier Gaurav Gupta for the Lakmé Fashion Week Grand Finale, an iconic moment that placed upcycled fashion on one of India's biggest fashion stages. EcoKaari’s handwoven fabrics, made entirely from upcycled single‑use waste plastics such as chip packets, chocolate wrappers, and plastic bottles, were used to style the models who walked the finale runway.
The collaboration showcased the incredible potential of sustainable fashion, proving that waste can become couture. Gaurav Gupta’s visionary designs integrated EcoKaari’s fabric into bold, futuristic silhouettes. In his own words, “91% of plastic isn't recycled… Through this collection, we aim to minimise waste and take a step towards a more sustainable fashion scape.”
The partnership extended beyond the runway. Actor Ayushmann Khurrana wore a stunning White & Gold Gilded Bomber Jacket created with EcoKaari’s upcycled fabric for his film promotions under the #GGMan series. The jacket reflected a powerful message: sustainability can be stylish, luxurious, and trendsetting.
EcoKaari’s upcycled fabrics are made entirely by women artisans using charkha and handloom without electricity, chemicals, or heat. Every thread represents creativity, responsibility, and environmental consciousness.
Our collaboration with Gaurav Gupta demonstrated that when innovation meets craftsmanship, sustainability becomes aspirational. EcoKaari continues to inspire global designers, artists, and conscious consumers to reimagine waste not as a problem, but as a resource.
